What is the Lightrium Lamp?

Thanks for your consideration in buying a Lightrium lamp. You’ll be participating in the development of a novel and independent energy technology. A lamp that harvests sunlight through an array of 12 x PV cells and stores this onboard through 2 x Li-ion batteries – the same battery type that you’ll find in electric vehicles. The lamp provides up to 2,000 lumens of brightness, which is about as bright as the average loungeroom. Stand the lamp in direct sunlight for up to four hours, every other day, to fully charge the batteries.

How does the lamp work?

An array of PV solar cells line two sides of the lamp. Inside, and array of LEDs produce up to 2,000 lumens of brightness, for up to three hours.

When the lamp is placed with the PV solar cells facing a window* (supports charging through standard, and grade A glass only)**, the lamp will harvest solar power from both direct and indirect sunlight. This harvesting activity charges two onboard Li-ion batteries.

Once the sun sets, the lamp will start an illumination sequence that runs from 8pm to 10pm at 20% brightness. Using the Lightrium app, you can adjust the brightness at any time and review analytics like battery range and sunlight harvesting efficiency that occurred during the day. You can even give your lamp a name :)

* the lamp will only charge when facing East, North or West, and preferably is left in direct sunlight at least three times per week during summer and each day during winter.

** the lamp will charge through standard window panes, but will not charge if your windows are tinted or have UV solar protection applied. For best results, allow the lamp to stand in direct sunlight for up to four hours, every second day.

How long does the lamp last on a full charge?

One charging cycle provides about 6 hours of illumination at 20% brightness (1,000 lumens). The lamp will run its illumination sequence from 8pm to 10pm at 20% brightness every night, until the batteries reach 20%. Once it reaches 20% the lamp will go to sleep. The Lightrium app allows you to adjust this down and up to 2,000 lumens of brightness. For best results, allow the lamp to stand in direct sunlight for up to four hours, every second day.

How long does it take to fully charge the lamp?

The efficiency of the solar harvesting depends on how overcast the day might be. The lamp will charge from indirect sunlight, but it will be much slower to charge. In direct sunlight, the lamp will fully charge in about 4 hours, from a starting base of 20%.

In the event there’s no sunny days for a while we recommend using the USB-PB charging cable which will charge the lamp from 40% up to 60%. The electronic design is based on ensuring the Li-ion batteries are charged regularly from the PV solar array.

How bright is the lamp?

When the lamp follows its programmed illumination sequence, brightness is set at 400 lumens (20% brightness). The app allows you to adjust this down, and up to 2,000 lumens (100%).

What if there’s no sun for days?

Weather is unpredictable. The lamp requires steady daylight exposure, preferably outside facing North, East or West for a few hours every other day. But when the sun doesn’t shine, you can recharge the lamp via the USB-PD cable. The lamp is first and foremost a solar harvester. The external USB-PD charging will only charge the lamp up to 60% to ensure further charging can occur through future solar harvesting opportunities.

Do you have a return policy?

Yes. Within 7 days of receiving your lamp, if you're not satisfied, you can return the lamp in its original packaging for a full refund. Once the lamp has been returned and inspected, you can expect a refund within 14 days. We’re sorry, there are no refunds on any accessories you may also to choose to purchase with your lamp.
